Blood Drive for Placenta Accreta Awareness

As part of our month long observance of Miscarriage and Infant Loss Awareness Month we invite you to help save lives by donating blood.

Placenta Accreta is an obstetric complication that involves the deep attachment of the placenta into the uterine wall. However the placenta does not penetrate the uterine muscle. More severe cases include placenta percreta and increta which do involve the uterine muscle and can carry greater risks for mothers. The primary risk to the mother is hemorrhaging during attempts to remove the placenta postpartum. In Accreta cases the placenta has difficulty detaching from the uterine wall. Severe hemorrhaging can lead to many complications and can become quickly life threatening. Placental issues are a leading cause of 2nd trimester losses. Hemorrhage is the #1 cause of maternal deaths.

With your blood donation, you will be helping to save lives in our local area.

One Blood is a non-profit organization dedicated to providing blood and components to all 38 hospitals and 70 ambulatory facilities in the tri-county area. They need approximately 1000 donations every day to keep up our local supplies for and on average they only have a 2-3 day supply locally. Your donation will be used within 72 hours to save patient lives.

All donors will receive a Free T-Shirt, your blood type and a mini-wellness check- up including a Cholesterol screening, blood pressure, pulse and iron check.
